  • Goodbye Analogs, Hello Freedom!

    I never realized just what I was missing until I ended a 15-year dance with tobacco cigarettes.

    cigaretteI remember the first time I smoked. It was a warm winter day in West Texas. After weeks of turning cigarettes down, I said, "Why not?" I cannot reclaim those fifteen years, but I can tell you what I have regained since I stubbed out my last cigarette.

    I have long been an outside smoker. I donned coats, hats, gloves, and more just to kill myself with a cigarette. Every cigarette I smoked stole approximately ten minutes of my life. At 1/2 a pack of cigarettes per day, multiplied by ten minutes, equates to 100 minutes of my life wasted every single day. Over the course of 15 years, I have wasted 9,125 hours or 380 days. I can never regain those days, but I can take advantage of the next 380 days of my life!

    Brittan Cabinet Behavioral Insights Team Notes Electronic Cigarettes as an Effective Measure to Curb Smoking Health Risks

    Portions of the following are taken directly from the Behavior Health Insight Team's Annual Report. The full text can be viewed as a PDF here.

    A key component of the 2010-2011 report discusses the damaging effects of smoking and the team looked to specifically take instrumental problems arising from those who smoke and create legislature to reduce those risks and provide easy-to-implement solutions to reduce harm.
