  • Utah Passes Ban on Hookahs, E-cigarettes

Posted on March 25, 2012 by Mysti Reutlinger

Utah's Senate passed the final approval on a ban of using hookahs and e-cigarettes in indoor public places. The bill, HB245, has so far exempted hookah bars and e-cigarette shops from the ban for the next five years, though, at which point Utah's legislature will have to determine whether or not to expend this ban. HB245 passes with a 24-3 approval vote and has been sent to Gov. Gary Herbert for signing.

An act already in place in the state, Utah's Indoor Clean Air Act, previously banned only the act of igniting tobacco. The difference with hookahs and e-cigarettes is that hookahs heat tobacco in pipes that pas through water, while e-cigarettes vaporize a liquid with nicotine. No tobacco ignition is involved, which meant Utah's Legislature saw this as a big grey area.

The ban has caused quite the uproar as many prior cigarette smokers have turned to the e-cigarette as an alternative once cigarette smoking bans have gone into effect. Many politicians who have supported the ban of the e-cigarette claim that they are aiming to keep the public safe, as users of e-cigarettes simply don't know how much they're smoking and how much nicotine they are taking in. Proposed Bill in Vermont Threatens Electronic Cigarette Users

cVermont House Bill 747 has been introduced and referred to the House Committee on Human Services, but has yet to be added to the agenda. This bill has multiple sections, one of which should be supported.

Section 6, as included below from H747, aims to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors. We encourage you to fully support this section of the bill as electronic cigarettes contain nicotine, an addictive substance, and should only be used by adults.

    Sec. 6.  V.S.A. § 1003 is amended to read:
    § 1003. SALE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS; REQUIREMENTS;
    PROHIBITIONS
    (a) A person shall not sell or provide tobacco products, tobacco substitutes or tobacco paraphernalia to any person younger than 18 years of age.

Section 9 seeks to prohibit the purchase, sale, and delivery of electronic cigarettes via the Internet, mail order, telephone, or any other electronic network. The penalties for each violation are up to 5 years imprisonment, a $5,000 criminal fine, and a $5,000 civil fine. Continue Reading

  • Electronic Cigar Explosion

Posted on February 18, 2012 by Mysti Reutlinger

For many smokers, electronic cigarettes have become a way of life. An accident occurring in Niceville, Florida has many e cig users questioning the safety of their product at this time. We want to address the concerns of our customers and the electronic cigarette community today.

Tom Holloway, 57, was rushed to the hospital earlier this week after a cigar sized electronic cigarette blew up as he was vaping. He sustained burns to his face, lost teeth, and a portion of his tongue. Mr. Holloway has been released from the burn center in Alabama to continue recovering from his accident at home.

The 9-1-1 transcript was released where Mrs. Holloway reported that her husband was smoking an electronic cigar when it exploded. Chief Butch Parker of the North Bay Fire District responded to the call. “I have never heard of or seen anything like this before,” Parker told ABCNews. Although the battery was unrecognizable after the incident, Parker reported finding several 3.0 volt CR123A type batteries charging in the room along with a scorched battery case that appeared to be one for a cigar-sized device.

While this is the first reported electronic cigarette explosion and injury, another person recently reported a similar explosion that occurred while charging his modified device. On February 5, 2012, Chris Hornsby published a YouTube video showing the damage caused by his Ego-T that exploded while charging. The device exploded while connected to a USB charger. The battery shot out the bottom and hit his printer causing a fire. Continue Reading

Freedom from cigarettes and freedom to vape.
I don't know what I would have done without the Safe Cig.  I believe I got mine sometime around June or July.  I started using it a little bit then, but I was still buying cigs.  Finally I bought a carton of cigarettes in August and just told myself [...]

  • Love of Quitting

Posted on February 16, 2012 by Mysti Reutlinger

Without the anguish of ditching tobacco.

I love ecigs so much because they made me finally quit smoking without any problems and without ever going back to analog cigarettes.

It is so nice to not have to go outside to smoke when I am at a function. I no longer have to leave a family gathering early because I need to have my nicotine fix. My husband no longer is rolling the window all the way down in the car on my side in the winter time. I no longer have that stink on my clothes and in my hair. I can kiss my family and my husband with out having to taste like an ashtray.

I no longer have to hear my doctor and dentist preaching to me about how I need to quite smoking tobacco and what it is doing to my body and my teeth. The girl that cleans my teeth says that I don't have those terrible brown stains on my teeth any more.

I have much more energy and stamina. E-cigarettes have changed my life. Continue Reading

  • The SafeCig Saves

Posted on February 16, 2012 by Mysti Reutlinger

More than money, it saves lives, too!

Everyone knows the common expression of the ex-smoker, "If I can quit, anyone can quit."  I've always wanted to be able to say this as encouraging words to someone who was trying to fight the "quit smoking" battle.  In order to say this, you first have to be quit yourself.

I started smoking at the age of 11.  Now, being 27, with a 5 year old of my own I often wondered why in the world I even started to begin with.  I have tried to quit smoking so many times and had no hope at all that I could quit.  That was until, SafeCig.

With SafeCig I am saving around $150 a month.  It's cheaper than cigarettes and my insurance through my work is cheaper because I am now a non-smoker.  I can go into places or out with my boyfriend and not worry about smelling like a perfumed ashtray.  I have even let my smoker friends try my SafeCig and they all are planning on getting one. • Dr. Joshua Ellison Encourages Patients to Quit

Posted on February 6, 2012 by Mysti Reutlinger

In an article at SJ-R.com, the digital version of The State Journal Register, Dr. Ellison shares his experiences as a former smoker and offers advice and information on alternative choices to quit smoking.

Recently, Harvard School of Public Health released a report that stated people are not more likely to quit using NRTs than they are with their own will power. Dr. Ellison, a former closet smoker, went to great lengths to ensure his patients never knew he smoked. He, like many smokers, know the risks of smoking. When Dr. Ellison set out to quit smoking, he used nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in the form of a patch. He explains to patients that quitting smoking is 'extremely difficult' but encourages his patients to think of the events they could miss should they not quit smoking.

Dr. Ellison notes that smokers who want to quit don't always need professional assistance. It is noted that over-the-counter products -  nicotine patches, lozenges, and gums -  are available. Additionally, smokers use alternative medicine such as mediation, massage, or acupuncture. Some chiropractors perform auriculotherapy, which is also said to help with smoking cessation. Dr. Ellison even brought up that some people find electronic cigarettes helpful. Continue Reading
