Things to do at Home Instead of Smoking

Sometimes being out and about makes curbing the urge to smoke easier. Staying busy and keeping the mind occupied helps divert attention from the nagging sensation that something is missing from your routine. When people are at home, it is common that they will light up more if they are bored. Finding productive activities to occupy your time in your least busy of spaces can help you kick your smoking addiction!

Bake Bread

Baking bread involves patience and persistence in mastering recipes and techniques, but for the edgy smoker, kneading bread offers a place to release all the tension felt in the neck and shoulders. Once your bread is baked, you'll have a delicious treat to enjoy as a reward, too.

Clean Out Closets

There are places in everyone's home that always seem to collect multiple items that really are not needed. Closets are often the culprit. Instead of smoking another chemical-filled tobacco stick, sort through and organize one closet. Discard anything you haven't used in over a year and sort through all the clothes to find items that could be donated. When you finish this project, you won't be craving a cigarette and will feel accomplished, too!

Garden

Gardening is a relaxing hobby. For many gardeners, having their hands in the dirt is a means to recharge the inner battery and promote peace and tranquility. If you are lacking in space to plant a large garden, consider building multiple small gardens in containers. A container garden can be as simple as using four or five coffee cans to house lettuce, carrots, and strawberries. If you live in a cooler climate, you can garden indoor, year round.

Leave Yourself Positive Messages

Spend an afternoon browsing through quotes for pieces that engage and inspire you. Write out those quotes on note cards and leave them around your house. Don't leave a space uncovered! Place cards on the inside and outside of cabinet doors, in dresser drawers, at the back of your neatly organized closet, near your phone, and even inside the freezer. When you surround yourself with positive statements, your mind moves towards success.

Finding positive, uplifting, and beneficial activities to do in your own home is as simple as looking outside the box. Quitting smoking is a long process for many people. Overcome one craving at a time by staying active and occupied. We know you can achieve all of your goals!
