One of the first things you’ll want to do after you’ve decided to quit smoking, is begin changing your lifestyle. Adding yoga into your life is one major step. Another important step is to begin focusing on how you fuel your body.
You’ll notice as yoga becomes a more prominent part of your life, you’ll become more in tune to your body, mind, and soul, and be more aware of what you put into your body. Now that nicotine is a thing of the past (or at least will be), you’ll need to find other avenues to get that surge of energy – healthy food and drink!
It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to incorporate healthy foods and drinks into your diet. You don’t have to buy name-brand items, for one. Perhaps your neighbor has a garden, or you could grow a small one yourself – even if it’s a container garden.
Start adding raw vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats like olive and coconut oil, and fish (salmon is an excellent source of omega-3s, vitamins, and minerals).
Keep chopped veggies on hand. Just choose a few favorites and keep them in the fridge for when you’re on the go. You can simply grab a couple of snacks or pack a quick lunch and be out the door. Buy packaged nuts (raw or made with sea salt) and leave them in your vehicle or purse for when you need a little boost of energy.
Make sure to have salad with your meals. You can even throw some fresh, baby spinach leaves in an omelet! By insuring you have healthy foods that are high in nutrients, you’re body will begin to feel strength and instead of fueling it with nicotine, you’ll be fueling it with the nutrition it’s been craving for so long. If you’re eating and drinking the right stuff, eventually nicotine cravings can fade.
A quick and easy (healthy!) meal can be thrown together by tossing your favorite greens (baby spinach leaves, romaine lettuce, etc.) onto a plate or in a bowl and topping with tomatoes, olives, corn, diced onion, and topping with salmon or egg salad, for example. A great salad dressing is a drizzle of olive or coconut oil, some sea salt, and a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime.
For dessert, try this healthful chocolate pudding that’s bound to send your taste buds far beyond those old nicotine cravings!
