Posted on April 16, 2010 by admin
To begin a smoking habit, all one needs to do is pick up a cigarette and light it, so why is quitting so much harder than simply not picking it up? There are many emotional, mental and physical changes that course through the body when smoking cessation is happening. Most of this has to do with the nicotine addiction that induces the withdrawal symptoms in those attempting to quit. Many find that when they overcome the mental obstacles to quitting, the rest is fairly simple. To the smoker, the cigarette at break time or at the end of the day is a kind of reward and is looked forward to much more in that aspect than the feeling of smoking the actual cigarette.

Nicotine Addiction is Among the Hardest to Break
Posted on April 15, 2010 by admin
Statistics show us time and time again that smokers want to quit; they know smoking is bad for them, will give them cancer, and lead them to an early grave. Yet they still light up, cigarette after cigarette, peeling years off their life, day after day, dollar after dollar. This behavior can only beg the question; “Why?”Of those who choose to smoke, 70% would like to quit but are unable to do so (this is staggering). The only explanation for these behaviors is an uncontrollable addiction to nicotine. Denise B Kandel, Ph.D., of Columbia University in New York reports that, “Nicotine may be the most addictive of all substances… Rates of dependence in the general population are higher for nicotine than alcohol, marijuana, or cocaine.” A statement that almost goes hand in hand with the reports that tobacco also kills more than those substances combined.
