Most people are non-smokers. As a vaper it is important to educate those around you who might not fully understand the electronic cigarette. For those who are smoking traditional cigarettes, it is neighborly to respect those who do not smoke. In celebration of Good Neighbor Day, here are some suggestions to build friendship bridges in your community.
Electronic Cigarette Education
Electronic cigarettes resemble cigarettes in appearance and behavior. Explaining the parts of your e-cig to your neighbor and how they function provides you the opportunity to build support for your alternative to cigarettes.
Key Facts
- This is a two-piece system containing one rechargeable battery and one refill.
- Each refill contains vaporizing fluid, nicotine, and flavorings.
- When drawing through the refill end, the battery turns on and warms the nicotine solution which looks like smoke.
- The electronic cigarette contains no tobacco and eliminates pollution that cigarettes cause.
- The vapor evaporates in the air within a minute and leaves no foul odors.
- By not burning tobacco, there is also no tar to stain.
It is highly recommended that you also explain the varying nicotine levels available in the original. Many have no intentions of reducing their nicotine intake, the knowledge that your electronic cigarette provides you the option is comforting, too.
Tobacco Use Respect
Smoking is a personal decision as is not smoking. As a smoker, it is hard to ignore that the addiction is detrimental to people's lives. Understand a non-smoker's point of view. Just like you, they know that millions of lives will end this year due to smoking related diseases and even more dollars will be spent treating those who battle heart and lung chronic illnesses. For a non-smoker, seeing someone smoke comes with multiple thoughts and opinions ranging from concern to disgust. Respecting mutual space can be accomplished with these tips:
- Smoke in well ventilated areas outdoors away from your neighbor's property or door.
- Be aware of any children nearby and move further away from them or stub out your cigarette.
- Keep the space in front of your home clean of smoking debris.
Simple respect for your neighbor's decision to not smoke will go far in maintaining a civil relationship. Above all else, communicate with one another should there be a disagreement, especially one that revolves around smoking.
Education and mutual respect go far with neighbors. If you haven't yet met those who live near you, take the initiative to say hello!

2 Responses to Be A Good Neighbor: Education and Respect
Hello, guys! Yes, it is a good idea to educate others, including neighbors, regarding electronic cigarettes and their features/benefits. Who knows your neighbors might know someone who wants to quit smoking and is seeking a good alternative?...By the way, wonder if tobacco smoke also harms neighbor's pets?
