Thirty second commercial advertisements began airing in New York on
Monday, August 1, 2011. The ads are aimed at encouraging smokers to quit by highlighting the risks of smoking.
One commercial features a guy using a hand-held device used to talk through his tracheotomy hole amidst hacking and coughing. Another spot is held by a middle-aged man recalls the goals he had as a youth being unfulfilled due to battling cancer. California is one of two states to reach the Healthy People 2020 target smoking rate of adults at under 12 percent! Healthy People 2020 “provides science-based ten-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans.”
In 2009, California residents who smoked comprised 13.1 percent of the population. In 2010, that figure dropped to 11.9 percent. Smoking declined in groups across the spectrum including men, women, and a wide array of ages.

Did you know a quit smoking vaccine was going through clinical trials? Sure was! Was being the operative word. During phase three of the trials, Rockville Biotech announced that NicVax failed to meet it’s major objective.
Nabi Biopharmaceuticals has been collaborating on NicVax with British pharma giant GlaxoSmithKline under a deal made in 2009 that was worth up to $500 million to Nabi, including an upfront payment of $40 million.
